Egentligen är det hela The Hives som är med på en av 2000-talets bästa jullåtar men Howlin Pelle är den som duellerar med Cindy Lauper i den redan klassiska ”A Christmas Duel”.
The Hives fick chansen att spela in en låt med självaste Cindy Lauper under 2008. En chans som man bara var tvungen att ta enligt en intervju som publicerades i SVD. Den hamnade i deras knä och idag är man nog inte alls ledsen att man fullföljde projektet. Cyndi Lauper är, för er som inte känner till henne en av 80-talets stora stjärnor som släppte hits som ”Girls just wanna have fun”, ”Time after time” och ”True colors”. Jag tror inte att någon 70-talist som läser vår fan site kan ha missat henne under sin uppväxt. Så vi kan ana The Hives känsla när man fick reda på att man skulle spela in denna låt.
A Christmas Duel nådde en fjärdeplats på svensktoppen men de internationella framgångarna uteblev dock. Men i Sverige har den blivit en stor hit under juletider bland många andra klassiker. Den spelas flitigt på radion och säkert hemma hos Svenssons Spotify-konto.
Det är inte en traditionell, snäll och mysig jullåt. Den innehåller en hel del fräcka rader men lyssnar man inte på texten är själva musiken en perfekt kombination, skulle man inte lyssna på texten så hade den passat in i varje lokal i Sverige.
